
GW Women's Soccer Falls in Weekend Finale

FULLERTON, Calif. - The George Washington women's soccer team (1-1-0) fell, 4-1, to host Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium to split the season's opening weekend. Junior MacKenzie Cowley netted the Colonials' goal with 4:22 to play in the first half.
Reigning Big West champion Cal State Fullerton (2-0-0) struck early as Christina Burkenroad redirected a corner kick to net the first goal of the match 6:39 into play. Rebecca Wilson increased the Titans' lead to two after scoring in the 24th minute.
Freshman Charley Prevost and sophomore Ingrid DiClemente then assisted on Cowley's shot to the upper right corner of the goal to end the half with a score of 2-1 in favor of the Titans.
Wilson tallied her second goal of the game to add to Cal State Fullerton's lead 4:46 into the second half. In the 80th minute, Burkenroad netted her second of the game to account for the final score of 4-1.
Redshirt-sophomore Miranda Horn and senior Ellen Conway split time evenly between the posts for the Buff and Blue. Horn recorded two saves in the first half, while Conway posted a save of her own in the second stanza as the Colonials were out-shot 10-2 during the match.
GW opens its home season on Sunday, Aug. 30, as East Carolina visits the GW Soccer Field at the Mount Vernon Campus.
