
GW Squash to Send Six to CSA Individual Nationals

WASHINGTON - The George Washington squash program will send a total of six student-athletes, three each from the men's and women's teams, to this weekend's College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships at Princeton University.
The No. 8-ranked GW women's team will send junior Anna Gabriela Porras, sophomore Breanne Flynn and senior Alejandra Porras. The No. 14-ranked men's team will send freshmen Mason Ripka and Oisin Logan, along with sophomore Andres de Frutos.
National individual rankings are used to seed two brackets. On the women's side, the top 32 individuals will compete for the Ramsay Cup while players ranked 33-80 will play for the Holleran Cup.
Anna Porras is seeded No. 13 overall and will compete in the Ramsay Cup. She will face Issey Norman Ross of Yale University in the first round on Friday. Flynn, ranked No. 26, will also compete in the Ramsay Cup and will play Laila Samy of Wesleyan in Friday's first round.
Alejandra Porras is ranked No. 49 and will play in the Holleran Cup. She has a first-round bye and awaits the winner of Charlotte Dewey (Middlebury) and Stewart Lemay (Dickinson) in the second round on Friday afternoon.
On the men's side, players ranked in the top-32 will compete for the Pool Trophy while those ranked No. 33-80 will compete for the Malloy Cup.
Ripka is ranked No. 23 and will open Pool Trophy competition against Mario Yanez of Rochester on Friday afternoon.
Logan, ranked No. 42, and de Frutos, ranked No. 47, both have first-round byes in the Malloy Cup. Logan will face the winner of Pierson Broadwater (Yale) and Nicholas Struzenski (Dickinson). de Frutos awaits the winner of Vincent Mencotti (Vassar) and Ibrahim Baker (Drexel).
The squash program has produced one individual national champion in its history. Omar Sobhy '13 won the Malloy Cup (B-Division) at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season.
