No. 7 GW Women's Squash Splits on Sunday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 7 George Washington women's squash team played to a split in its final road matches of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Brady Squash Center on the campus of Yale University. The Colonials defeated No. 16 Middlebury, 8-1, before narrowly falling to No. 10 Dartmouth, 5-4.
GW (5-5) first defeated Middlebury, 8-1, on Sunday morning. The Colonials won four of eight matches in straight sets, led by the duo of Anna Gabriela Porras and Breanne Flynn at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Also earning straight-sets wins were sophomore Mehak Chawla at No. 5 and junior Emely Levyn at No 7.
Freshman Lindsey Dewey won her third straight match by rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Zoe Carey at No. 6, 3-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-0, 11-6.
Junior Alexa Tzarnas also earned a five-set victory, holding off Lucy Bostwick at No. 9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6.
Freshman Abby Shonrock and junior Eunice Tan also picked up wins against Middlebury.
Against Dartmouth, the Colonials rallied to tie the score at 4-4 before Tan was forced to retire due to injury, leading to Dartmouth's 5-4 victory. Tan and Tiffany Hau were tied at 1-1 in the third set when the injury occurred.
Anna Porras (11-2, 11-6, 11-4 at No. 1) and Flynn (11-5, 11-4, 11-2) each picked up a pair of straight-sets wins for the Colonials.
Dewey won her fourth straight match with a 7-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-13, 11-7 victory over Oonis Morris at No. 6.
Tzarnas also provided a win for the Colonials, prevailing 8-11, 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10 at No. 9 over Madelin Frasier.
GW will close out its regular season with five consecutive home matches, beginning on January 24 against No. 4 Yale at 12:00 p.m.
