2014-15 Schedule
WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's squash team will play seven matches on its home courts at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at Lerner Health & Wellness Center as part of its 13-match regular-season schedule, head coach Wendy Lawrence has announced.
GW is coming off its best season in program history during which it won the Kurtz Cup (B-Division) Championship at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Nationals and peaked at a program-best No. 9 national ranking.
The 13-match schedule features five matches against opponents that were ranked in the top 10 of the final CSA National Poll last season in No. 3 Yale, No. 5 Princeton, No. 6 Cornell, No. 7 Stanford and No. 8 Dartmouth.
The Colonials return eight letterwinners from last season's championship team and have added five talented newcomers. GW has just one senior this upcoming season and will feature a roster of one senior, four juniors, three sophomores and five freshman.
GW opens the 2014-15 campaign on Nov. 7 against District rival Georgetown at home. One week later, the Colonials will renew their rivalry with the men's junior varsity squad of the United States Naval Academy in an exhibition match. The Colonials defeated the Midshipmen in the match last November in the second meeting between the two teams.
The team hits the road for the first time to face both Cornell and Stanford on Nov. 22 in Ithaca, New York, before closing out the fall portion of its schedule with a visit to Princeton on Dec. 8.
GW will embark on a winter training trip to Northern California in early January, resuming its schedule on Jan. 3 with a match against Bates at Stanford University.
The Colonials then return home to face Williams on Jan. 17 before heading to the Yale Round Robin for matches against Middlebury and Dartmouth on Jan. 18.
GW concludes the regular season with five consecutive home matches against Yale (Jan. 24), Columbia (Jan. 25), Franklin & Marshall (Feb. 6), Drexel (Feb. 7) and Virginia (Feb. 7).
CSA Team Nationals will be held at Harvard University's Murr Center in Boston Feb. 13-15. CSA Individual Nationals will follow from Feb. 27-March 1 at Princeton University.
