
Men's Squash Wraps Weekend in New England

NEW HAVEN - The No. 16 George Washington men's squash team wrapped up a weekend of matches at Yale University on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 loss against No. 17 Middlebury.
GW (7-7) opened its weekend with a pair of matches on Saturday. In the first match, the Colonials were knocked off, 8-1, by No. 12 Williams. In the nightcap, No. 9 Columbia posted a 8-1 win over the Colonials. Senior Omar Sobhy was the lone winner against Williams, winning a 3-0 decision at No. 1.
Freshman Reid Breck was the lone Colonial to post a win against Columbia, sweeping his way to a victory at No. 5.
On Sunday, Sobhy picked up a pair of victories at No. 1, but No. 4 Cornell prevailed 8-1 over GW before No. 17 Middlebury pulled a 6-3 upset in the nightcap.
Also picking up wins in the Middlebury match were Breck and freshman Browning Platt. Breck edged out his opponent in five games at No. 5 and Platt swept his way to a 3-0 win at No. 6.
The Colonials host a trio of local opponents this weekend at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at Lerner Health & Wellness Center. GW hosts a doubleheader with Johns Hopkins (4:00 p.m.) and Virginia (6:00 p.m.) on Friday before facing Maryland (12:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
