GW Squash Concludes Regular Season

PROVIDENCE, RI- In their final regular season match of the season the No. 17 George Washington men's squash team fell to No. 12 Brown University, 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Islam El-Fiky won his third match of the weekend by besting Brown's Adrian Leanza 11-6, 12-10, 11-6. El-Fiky was followed in the No. 2 position by sophomore Omar Sobhy, the 88th-ranked player in the College Squash Association. Sobhy put on a dominant performance in a straight-set win over the 42nd-ranked player in the CSA, Brad Thompson 11-9, 11-6, 11-9.
The Colonials put forth a modest effort against Brown, forcing three seperate matches to a full five games. Junior Adam Pistel held a two game lead on Christopher Holter before falling 11-13, 11-9, 3-11, 11-2, 11-5. While sophomore Player Haynes and freshman Larkin Brinkworth fell in similar fashion. Additionally, No. 3 player Jose Calderon was held out of the lineup due to a knee strain.
The No. 17 ranked GW women's team struggled to establish momentum as they fell to No. 12 Brown 9-0. The Colonials were without the services of two players. Freshman No. 1 Jackie Shea fell ill overnight and was unable to compete while freshman Kyung Min-Kim was unable to travel with the team.
With their win over Hamilton on Saturday evening, the GW women's team (12-6) secured the No. 16 position and a second division (Kurtz Cup) draw in this weekend's College Squash Nationals at Princeton University, Feb. 17-19. Seeding and matchups will be announced later this week.
