GW Men's Squash Splits Weekend Matches

WASHINGTON - The No. 17-ranked George Washington men's squash team earned a weekend split after defeating Haverford College Sunday at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts. The Colonials fell to No. 7 Dartmouth Saturday in Annapolis, Md.
GW (3-1) opened the weekend with a 9-0 loss to No. 7 Dartmouth. For just the third time in his career, junior Islam El-Fiky dropped a 9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 decision at No. 1 singles to Christopher Hanson.
Junior Omar Sobhy was the only other Colonial to not fall in straight sets. He stole the second set in an 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5 loss to Nicolas Sisodina at No. 2.
GW returned home Sunday to face Haverford and rolled to a 9-0 victory. El-Fiky and Sobhy led the team with straight set victories combining to allow just 12 points across six sets.
Senior Jose Calderon surrendered just two points in an 11-0, 11-2, 11-0 win over Harry Gallway at No. 3. Sophomore Chris Bell did the same at the No. 7 position with an 11-0-11-0, 11-2 win over Bret Marlowe.
Freshman David Moxley continued his impressive debut season with a near shutout at No. 9. He allowed just one point in an 11-0, 11-0, 11-1 dismantling of Zachary Kaden.
GW will now have over three weeks off before returning to the court during the weekend of Dec. 2. GW will face No. 24 Connecticut College on Fri. Dec. 1, and No. 1 Trinity and No. 18 Bowdoin on Saturday. All matches are in Hartford, Conn.
