WASHINGTON, DC - Despite wins from the top two positions on the ladder, the No. 16-ranked GW men's squash team could not hold off No. 15 Navy, falling 6-3 on Wednesday evening in front of a capacity crowd at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts.
The loss was GW's (10-3) third straight after opening the season with 10 consecutive victories. The Colonials have never defeated the Naval Academy, falling to 0-19 all-time against the Midshipmen.
Sophomore Islam El-Fiky, the 27th-ranked player in the College Squash Association (CSA) and the 172nd-ranked men's player in the world, continued his strong debut season at Foggy Bottom by delivering another win from the top ladder spot. El-Fiky defeated Allan Lutz 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-9) for his eighth individual victory of the season.
Sophomore Omar Sobhy, currently the 88th-ranked player in the CSA, recorded an 11-4, 11-2, 11-9 victory over Billy Abrams. Sobhy is tied with sophomore Player Haynes with 10 individual victories so far this season.
