Jake Gross Named Assistant Squash Coach At GW

WASHINGTON, DC - Jake Gross has been named the assistant squash coach at The George Washington University, head coach Wendy Lawrence has announced. Gross will be responsible for physical training, recruiting and overseeing the practice schedule.
"I have had the pleasure of coaching Jake for over 10 years as a junior in Washington, DC. He was one of the most talented players to come out of DC and he went on to have an outstanding college career at Tufts. He is not only an outstanding player of high national stature, but he is an engaging and enthusiastic coach who will elevate the program without question," said Lawrence.
"I am very exciting to be joining the GW squash program. Wendy Lawrence and I have worked together in a number of capacities over the years, and I cannot wait to join her again for this season. The men's and women's teams both have incredible potential and I hope I can contribute to their development with my playing and coaching experience," said Gross
Gross is a 2008 graduate of Tufts University, where he earned his bachelor of arts in political science. While at Tufts, he was the number one player for all four years, including serving as team captain in his junior and senior seasons. Gross holds the Tufts record for all-time victories (53) and was a three-time team MVP. He also achieved an individual ranking of 24th in the country among collegiate players and was named to the All-NESCAC First Team in 2008.
Gross has also competed for the United States men's national team in the under-23 and under-19 divisions. In the U-23 division, he finished ranked third at the 2007 nationals. He also competed internationally against Canada in August 2006. While competing on the U-19 team, Gross obtained a high ranking of number two in the country in 2005.
In addition to an accomplished playing career, Gross has also established himself as a talented squash coach both in Washington, DC and around the country. He was the head coach at the DC Squash Academy, under current GW coach Wendy Lawrence from 2004-2008. In 2005 he served as head coach at the renowned Talbott Squash Academy under squash legend Mark Talbott. He also has coached at T Position Squash, Results the Gym and at the Potomac School.
The Colonials open the 2010-11 season on October 29th when they host district rival Georgetown at the Lerner Health and Wellness Center, 23rd and G Streets, NW.
