GW Squash Concludes Fall Schedule With Successful Weekend

WASHINGTON, DC- The No. 19-ranked George Washington men's squash team closed out their fall schedule by competing in the Wesleyan Round Robin on Saturday and facing powerhouses Bowdoin and Trinity on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonials recorded 7-2 victories over both Wesleyan and Colby on Saturday at the Wesleyan Round Robin in Middletown, CT. The Colonials carried a 9-0 overall record into Sunday's matches with two of the top programs in the country, No. 15 Bowdoin College and the 12-time national champions, No. 1 Trinity College.
GW recorded their biggest win in program history by defeating Bowdoin 5-4. Sophomore Islam El-Fiky provided a win from the top ladder spot after an 11-6, 11-3, 11-5 victory over Andrew Bernard. Sophomores Omar Sobhy, Sam Ehrlich, Player Haynes and freshman Chris Bell also recorded victories for the Colonials.
The Colonials 10-match winning streak was halted on Sunday afternoon as they fell to the defending Potter Cup champions, Trinity College by a score of 8-1. Trinity has now won 228 consecutive matches. Sophomore Player Haynes recorded the lone victory for GW with an 11-8, 14-12, 8-11, 11-9 victory over Ian Brooks.
GW will take a break from competition for final exams and winter recess and will return to the courts on January 12 to host Navy at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at the Lerner Health and Wellness Center. Match time is 5:00 pm.
