Colonials Beat Virginia, Fall To Columbia On Saturday Morning

WASHINGTON, DC- The No. 16 ranked women's squash team split a Saturday morning double header with Virgina and Columbia at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at the Lerner Health & Wellness Center. The Colonials posted a 9-0 win over the Cavaliers and fell to the Lions 6-3.
In the first match, GW (4-1) easily defeated the No. 33 ranked Virginia Cavaliers (0-1) while not dropping a game. Freshmen Jackie Shea and Kelly Barnes both cruised to easy victories in the top two ladder spots. Shea posted an 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 victory over Kelly Whelan, while Barnes had little trouble defeating Lynn Sitachitt 11-3, 11-2, 11-5.
Sophomore Lauren Mathieu once again excelled in the number three position on the ladder, posting an 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 victory over Sara Lee Pruksaritanon.
The Colonials fell to No. 20 ranked Columbia (1-0) in the second contest by a score of 6-3. Shea and Barnes once again tallied straight set victories over their opponents. Also recording a victory for the Colonials was freshman Becca Imrich Imrich recorded a marathon five-set victory over Lindsey Harris (11-2, 11-6, 10-12, 9-11, 11-5).
The Colonials return to action on December 4 at the Wesleyan when they face Colby and Wesleyan.
