
Stadler Leads Men's Soccer Past Rival American, 2-0

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's soccer team defeated rival American University, 2-0, Saturday afternoon on the campus of American University. Andy Stadler scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season to lead the Colonials' offense.
George Washington (3-2-1) is now unbeaten in each of its last four matches against American (3-4-1) going 3-0-1. Goalie Matt Scheer made four saves en route to GW's second shutout of the season.
The scoring started just 13 minutes into the game when Stadler got behind the Eagles' defense and slid a shot into the right side of the net.
Each team tightened up their defense resulting in numerous fouls and two yellow cards. Cards were given to American's Dor Yasur and GW's Nikolay Aleksandrov.
Stadler added an insurance goal at the 57:55 mark. Freshman Yoni Berhanu crossed a ball through the box to the fleet junior who blasted the ball into the back of the net putting the Colonials up, 2-0.
Next up for the Colonials is a trip to Emmitsburg, MD, Saturday to take on Mount St. Mary's in a 1 p.m. contest.
