Women's Squash Takes Second at Vassar Team Challenge

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -The George Washington women's squash team spent the weekend participating in the Vassar Team Challenge. The Colonials, ranked #24 in the country, finished second in the tournament.
GW opened play on Saturday and defeated Smith College 7-2 in their first match. Later that day, the Colonials shutout Columbia 9-0 while winning all of their matches in 3-0 fashion. In the tournament's championship match, GW struggled early against host school Vassar and eventually fell to the 19th-ranked team in the country by a final of 8-1. Sophomore Sybil Bunn earned the only point against Vassar and was also the only Colonial to win all three of her matches over the weekend. Co-captain Christina Lazar, Rachael Rayfield, Kate Bullard, Elaine Purcell, Maggie Alexander and Kara Popowich all finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. GW is now 4-9 on the year.
The Colonials will continue play this Friday, February 9, when they play host to at 4:00 p.m. The match will be held in the Lerner Health and Wellness Center.
