Women's Squash Earns Three Wins at Wesleyan Round Robin

MIDDLETOWN, CT - George Washington women's squash earned their first ever victory over No. 22 Connecticut College Saturday as the Colonials competed in the Wesleyan Round Robin Tournament in Middletown, CT.
Overall at the three-day tournament, GW was 3-4, defeating host Wesleyan (No. 26 in the final rankings of 2006-07), 8-1, and No. 28 Smith, 9-0, in addition to their 7-2 victory over Connecticut College. The Colonials fell to No. 10 Bates, 9-0, No. 16 Hamilton, 9-0, No. 17 William Smith, 6-3, and No. 13 Mount Holyoke, 9-0.
The Colonials are now 5-5 on the season.
In their three wins, GW No. 1 player Rachael Rayfield (Linwood, NJ/Mainland Regional), a junior team tri-captain, did not drop a game, winning all three of her matches by a score of 3-0. Other three-game winners included senior Kara Popowich (Bethlehem, PA/Moravian Academy), senior Alexa Miller (Haverford, PA/Episcopal Academy), junior Elaine Purcell (Arlington, MA/Newton Country Day), Eliza Ehrlich, and T.T. Pasanen.
George Washington will take off time for final exams and winter break and then return to action on January 12, when they host Toronto, at 3:00 p.m., at the Lerner Health and Wellness Center.
