WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's squash began their 2007-2008 season with a pair of home matches held at the Lerner Health and Wellness Center. The Colonials, playing under first-year Head Coach Wendy Lawrence, defeated Georgetown, 9-0, on Oct. 26, but then fell to perennial power Franklin & Marshall a week later, on Nov. 4.
The Diplomats finished last year ranked No. 15 in the country while the Hoyas ended the season at No. 44. The Colonials, who return eight of their 12 players from last year, finished No. 30.
In their opening match of this season, GW won easily, defeating Georgetown, 9-0, as they lost just one point, outscoring the Hoyas 27-1 overall. The following week, however, saw the Colonials stumble, losing to F&M, 9-0.
This weekend, GW will continue its fall schedule, when they travel to Annapolis, MD, to compete in the Navy Squash Invitational. On Saturday, the Colonials will face Columbia (No. 35 in 2006-07) at 11:30 a.m. Then, on Sunday, GW will square off against Stanford (No. 21) at 9:00 a.m., and then Vanderbilt (No. 32) at 11:30 a.m.
