WASHINGTON, DC -- Maura Myers has been named head coach of The George Washington University women's squash team, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mary Jo Warner announced Thursday.
Myers is a 2004 graduate of Colby College (Waterville, ME) where she played squash for four years and served as team captain her senior season. Myers, a native and current resident of McLean, VA, was also a member of the field hockey team and the women's rugby club team at Colby.
Myers, 22, brings a tremendous amount of coaching and organizational experience to GW through her work at The Potomac School in McLean. Myers coordinated squash, field hockey and softball summer camps at the kindergarten through 12th grade school and also worked as a teacher and aquatics instructor.
"I'm excited about working with an up and coming team, especially at GW's extraordinary facility," Myers said. "We have eight solid returning starters and a talented incoming freshmen class. I expect the GW women to climb in the rankings in the 2004-05 season."
The women's squash team opens the season at the University of Virginia Nov. 5 and the men's squash team begins play at Franklin & Marshall College Nov. 6.
