PRINCETON, NJ -- The GW Women's Rowing team struggled Saturday in races against No. 1 Princeton, No. 20 Tennessee and A-10 champion Massachusetts on Carnegie Lake near Princeton, NJ.
The Colonials Varsity 8 completed the 2,000-meter course in 7:13.3, just two seconds behind UMass in a shifting headwind.
"Overall I was not pleased with the effort put forth by our boats," GW head coach Rob McCracken said. "I thought we had a great opportunity to prove ourselves against 20th-ranked Tennessee and UMass, but we didn't take advantage of it. We need to spend the next two weeks getting everyone mentally and physically prepared to race at Eastern Sprints. If we practice the way we want to race, I believe that we have the ability to place boats from GW in the petite final at Sprints."
Next up for the GW women will be the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 14, on Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
