Women's Rowing Takes a Pair of Seconds at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ -- The GW Women's Rowing team opened the spring season by competing in a three-way race with Rutgers and Rhode Island Saturday on the Raritan River in New Brunswick/Piscataway, NJ. The Varsity Eight, Varisty Four and Novice Eight all put in strong performances in finishing second in their respective races. The 2,000-meter race was run in a slight headwind.
"The race was a great early season indicator of where we stack up against teams in the Atlantic 10 and the Eastern Sprints," GW head coach Rob McCracken said. "From a technical standpoint, I was pleased with how all of our boats rowed. The varsity eight was very composed and relaxed despite being in a very tight race with Rutgers. Unfortunately, the race highlighted the fact that our boats are not effectively applying their power through the water. The rowers all know that the power is there. Our task now is to harness it in order to increase boat speed over the coming weeks."
