CAMDEN, NJ -- The GW Men's Rowing team competed in the 2005 Knecht Cup Sunday on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ. Both the Varsity Eight and Freshmen Eight put in strong performances that will help build confidence for the championship races at the end of the Spring semester.
The GW men captured two second-place finishes against tough competition. Competing in the Men's Freshmen Eight and Men's Varsity Eight events, both Colonial crews qualified for the Grand Final where they were narrowly defeated by crews from Marist University. The Freshmen men's race was contested from a field of 20 crews, GW was three seconds behind Marist and finished ahead of Saint Joseph's, Army, Lehigh and Delaware.
The Varsity Men, racing a field of 13 crews, had a very aggressive performance and were able to top Temple and Saint Joseph's, two crews which had beaten the Colonials earlier in the season. The men's rowing team will be idle this weekend but will return to action on Sunday, May 1, when they host the Georgetown men in The Duel on the Potomac River.
