GW Names McCracken Head Coach for Women's Rowing

WASHINGTON, DC -- Robert E. McCracken has been named head coach for women's rowing at The George Washington University, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mary Jo Warner has announced. McCracken replaces former head coach Helen Betancourt who resigned to accept a coaching position at Princeton University.
McCracken will be responsible for all aspects of the Colonials women's rowing program which opens the 2005-06 season Oct. 23 at the Head of the Charles in Boston, MA.
McCracken has spent the past two years as a volunteer assistant coach at GW with the women's rowing program. Prior to that, McCracken served as assistant coach and head novice rowing coach at Indiana University for nearly four years.
A 1996 graduate of Duke University, McCracken was a three-year member of the Blue Devils' varsity lightweight eight. He earned a master's degree from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 2000. In 1995, he spent the Spring semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland where he was a member of the Edinburgh University Boat Club.
The George Washington rowing program is based at Thompson Boat Center located at Virginia Ave. and Rock Creek Parkway in Northwest Washington.
