WASHINGTON, DC - The GW Women's Rowing team hosted the annual Playfair Cup on April 4 against Boston University and the U.S. Naval Academy Saturday on the Potomac River. The Colonials also raced against MIT later Saturday morning.
Following several days of rain, the race course had a strong current and a cross-tail wind led to some choppy, yet fast water conditions. In the Varsity Eight race, BU was able to outlast GW down the 2,000-meter course and won in a time of 5:43.1, two seconds ahead of the Colonials (5:45.3). The second varsity eight was another close race until the GW boat hit the race course buoy and was edged out. The Navy second varsity eight won by three seconds over BU.

BU 5:54.2

BU won both of the novice eight races over Navy and GW. In the first novice eight event, debris in the river caused equipment breakage and the GW first novice boat was unable to race.
