Men's Novice Rowing Wins at Knecht Cup Regatta

CAMDEN, NJ - The GW Men's Rowing team competed in the 2004 Knecht Cup regatta Saturday at Camden, NJ. Both the Varsity and Freshmen Eight put in strong performances that will help build confidence for the Championship races at the end of the Spring semester.
The Freshmen Eight lineup of coxswain: Amy Garrison, 8-Mike Hill, 7-Mike Mancusi-Ungaro, 6-Henry Roosevelt, 5-Chris Straub, 4-Nick VanderVeer, 3-Ryan Luther, 2-Justin Persuitti and bow Tim Conroy, looked very strong and won its race. GW head coach Matt Boyle said "I was impressed with the rhythm in the freshmen boat, they beat a quality crew in Saint Joseph's but we will have to see how our guys improve from here."
The Varsity Eight, consisting of coxswain Evan Johnson, 8-Victor Marwin, 7-Steve Carlson, 6-Joe Richards, 5-Alex Cashman, 4-Justin Luther, 3-Anthony Cipriano, 2-Matt Gefter and bow Eric Cartier, found themselves in a tight race with Dowling, Saint Joseph's and Lehigh. The Colonials finished the race in second place behind Temple. "We improved each race through the weekend and that was our goal," Boyle said. "We were successful in that regard but I would have liked to have been closer to Temple, we'll just have to work harder."
The men's next race takes place on Sunday, May 2 in the Duel vs. Georgetown on the Potomac River beinning at 9:00 a.m.
