WASHINGTON, DC (April 7, 2002) - George Washington was unable to contain the Temple Owls, who topped the Colonials 18-4 at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
The Colonials (3-7, 0-4) fell into a 4-0 hole as Temple (6-3, 2-0) netted their first four scores in the first six minutes of the contest. GW got on the board at 19:17 when freshman Heidi Mayer (Havertown, PA/Haverford HS) converted a perfect pass by fellow freshman Meghan McDonough (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis HS) to notch her 16th goal of the season.
Temple responded with five unanswered scores, taking a 9-1 lead with ten minutes left in the half. GW freshman Jamie Lee (Berkeley, CA/Berkeley) broke the scoring drought with her 19th goal of the season when freshman Jenny Heisler fed Lee in front of the goal for the Colonials' second score of the game.
Temple would add another score before the half to take a 10-2 lead, but with time winding down, GW scored with just six seconds on the clock. Junior Jacqueline Arfaa (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll HS) netted a pass from Mayer to make the halftime score 10-3.
Temple would dominate the second half, scoring eight goals and holding GW to just one late score by McDonough to make the final tally 18-4. The Owls were led by Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, senior Noelle Cebron who recorded seven points with two goals and five assists.
GW returns to action on Wednesday, April 10, in a 4:00 p.m. game versus crosstown rival Howard University at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
