BETHLEHEM, PA (April 13, 2002) - The Colonials were unable to recover from a quick start by the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, falling behind 7-2 in the first half, and dropped an 11-6 decision.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the contest, GW (4-8, 0-4) came back strong, scoring two-straight goals on the Mountain Hawks to take a 2-1 lead. However their lead would be short-lived, as Lehigh netted six unanswered scores and took a 7-2 lead into the half.
The Colonials would mount a second half rally, scoring early to narrow the deficit, but Lehigh would keep GW at bay and never allow them back into the game.
Freshman Heidi Mayer led the Colonials with four goals, and fellow first-year player Jamie Lee would score two goals and add an assist in the losing effort.
The Colonials return to action next week when they depart for a two-game road trip versus Atlantic 10 foes St. Bonaventure on Saturday, April 20, in a 12:00 p.m. game and Duquesne on Sunday, April 21, in a 1:00 p.m. game.
