Women's Lacrosse Loses to Richmond, 18-5

WASHINGTON, DC (March 19, 2002) - The Colonials could not overcome a 9-3 deficit at halftime, falling to a talented University of Richmond team, 18-5.
Freshman Heidi Mayer (Havertown, PA/Haveford) scored two goals to lead George Washington (1-3, 0-2) who were outshot by the Spiders 50-13 on the game. Freshman goalkeeper Casey Atkins (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle) made 10 saves in her 60 minutes of play.
Richmond (4-2, 1-0) was led by sophomore Polly Purcell who tallied six points with three goals and assists. Senior Alexis Brandolini scored four goals and notched one assist, while senior Carrie Aitken added three goals and one assist.
GW departs for a three-game roadtrip, facing Niagra University on March 21, at 3:30 p.m.
