Ramon Garza enters his second season with GW baseball in 2027 as an assistant coach with the program.
GW finished with an 18-35 record in 2026, seeing three players earn All-Conference awards at the end of the season. Robbie Lavey and Cristino Tufano were named to the A-10 Second Team, while Colin Lebel picked up All-Rookie Team honors.
Garza arrived in Foggy Bottom in 2025 after spending one season as the Head Coach for Dallas College - Mountain View’s baseball program. Garza led the Lions to the postseason for the first time since 2019, seeing two of his players earn all-conference honors in the process.
Prior to taking over at Mountain View, Garza spent one season as an assistant at Dallas College Eastfield, seeing unprecedented success in the process. The Bees amassed an impressive 50-15 overall record, advancing to the NJCAA Division III National Championship. Garza’s guidance helped lead the program to a DAC regular season championship and finished as the NJCAA Division III South Central District runner-up. Garza helped develop two NJCAA All-Americans in pitcher Marcus Peters and first baseman Payton Poole, while also being named the American Baseball Coaches Association NJCAA Assistant Coach of the Year.
Garza’s coaching career began in 2022, becoming the Head Coach for the Charlottesville Tom Sox for one season, winning the Valley Baseball League championship in the process. This parlayed into a coaching role with his alma mater, the University of Texas at Dallas, serving as a volunteer assistant for the Comets from 2022-23.
Garza’s collegiate playing career started at Cornell, where he started all three seasons with the Big Red from 2017-20 at shortstop. He ultimately transferred to UT Dallas in 2021, putting together a decorated career, which included a D3Baseball.com First Team All-America selection in 2022 and Second Team All-America selections from the Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings in the same season. Garza led the Comets to two conference titles in his two seasons, picking up numerous all-conference and all-region awards in the process.
Garza earned a bachelor’s degree in applied economics from Cornell in 2020 and graduated with a master’s degree in finance from UT Dallas in 2022.
