Volleyball Sweeps Howard in Three

The George Washington volleyball team opened its three-match home stand on Saturday against Howard in the Charles E. Smith Center. With high energy ahead of the home opener, the Revolutionaries rode the momentum and secured the three-set win over the Bison (25-18, 27-25, 25-21).Â
The first set secured the tone for the remainder of the match with back-and-forth rallies between the two teams. With only one more kill and three less errors, the Buff and Blue were able to edge out the Bison for the set win, 25-18.Â
In the second set, the competition amplified with several rallies involving intense saves, quick defense and tactical attacks at the net. Each team tallied 33 attacks, but the GW Revs were able to nail down one more kill than Howard, securing the narrow 27-25 win.
With the first two sets under their belt, the Buff and Blue aimed to hold steady for the third set and finalized the match, 25-21.ÂNiconora Clarke had an exceptional match with 18 digs, 4 kills and 1 assist, which was followed closely behind by Lydia Zeng with 16 total digs. On offense, Riley Samuels and Cayla Cogan each recorded 10 kills, while Abby Markworth totaled 25 assists.Â
UP NEXT: The Buff and Blue will host Saint Louis for back-to-back matches on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 in the Charles E. Smith Center on ESPN+.
