Volleyball Comes Up Short Against VCU

The George Washington volleyball team fell to Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday evening in three sets (20-25, 25-27, 19-25).Â
GW opened the match with a competitive first set, recording nine kills on 28 attack attempts. The Revolutionaries also contributed 10 digs but were unable to overcome VCU, who secured the opening set, 20-25.
In the second set, GW found its offensive rhythm, posting 11 kills on 36 attempts while recording a match-high 14 digs. Despite battling throughout the set, the Revolutionaries fell just short, 27–25, giving the Rams a 2–0 advantage.
The Buff and Blue continued to compete in the final set, registering 11 kills on 26 attempts and adding eight digs. VCU ultimately pulled away to claim the third set, 19–25.
Across the match, GW recorded 31 kills on 90 attack attempts and totaled 32 digs. The Revolutionaries were led offensively by Cayla Cogan with eight kills and a .318 hitting percentage, while the defense was held down by Lydia Zeng with 13 total digs.Â
