Women’s Soccer Hangs Tough with A-10 Leading Saint Louis

WASHINGTON – On a hot day at the GW Soccer Field, the George Washington women's soccer team put up a valiant effort against Saint Louis, the reigning A-10 champions, in a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, GW falls to 3-5-3 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 49th Minute: After a scoreless first half, Lizzy Cruz put the match's first goal on the scoreboard, collecting a loose ball at the front of the goal and burying it into the net. The goal is Cruz's first of the year, while Kathleen Ngulefac picked up her first assist on the play.
- 52nd Minute: SLU's Hope Kim tallied the equalizer just three minutes later, finishing off a perfect pass from teammate Hannah Larson to knot the score at one apiece.
- 67th Minute: Saint Louis kept applying pressure in the second half, eventually taking its first lead of the match midway through the second period. After an initial shot from Larson, Adee Broesder stepped in and deflected the chance past GW's keeper for the score. Larson picked up the assist on the play, her second of the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- In a fast-paced contest, the Billikens finished with a 23-15 edge in shots and a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Kate Silverstein played the first 45 minutes in goal for GW, registering four saves and not allowing a goal. Jasmine Black played the remaining 45, allowing two goals and collecting three saves.
- Cruz (four shots) and Ngulefac (three shots) led the GW offense, while Kate McGrath and Amelia Booth each tallied two apiece.
- SLU finished with a 9-4 lead in corner kicks. Neither team was issued a card in the match.
