ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 19 (T) GW water polo team got back in the win column on Friday and Saturday, defeating both LIU and Salem before falling to No. 10 Princeton in the weekend finale. GW moves to 4-8 overall ahead of the start of conference play on Sept. 27.
No. 19 (T) GW 17, LIU 15
Looking to snap its losing skid, GW jumped out to an early lead against LIU. The Sharks remained close and knotted the game halfway through the third quarter, but the Revolutionaries used a 6-1 run to start the fourth quarter to pull away and secure its first win since opening weekend. Five players scored multiple goals: Anthony Ferneini (3 goals), Andrea Forno (3 goals), Adonis Vlassis (2 goals), Ben McDade (2 goals) and Joseph McCreary (2 goals).
No. 19 (T) GW 18, Salem 12
A 7-2 GW run out of the gate gave the Revolutionaries a comfortable early lead, which they did not cede in its 18-12 win over Salem. The closest the Tigers got to GW was four goals away in the fourth, but GW stayed the course on its way to the 18-12 win. Vlassis and Gabriele Molfino led the charge with four goals apiece.
No. 19 (T) GW 6, No. 10 Princeton 15
It was tough sledding for the Revolutionaries in its final game of the Navy Invitational against the tenth-ranked Princeton Tigers. GW was held scoreless in the first half as it trailed 9-0 at halftime, and while the Revolutionaries picked up offensively in the second half, the gap was too large as they fell, 15-6.
