Adeduntan Era in GW Women's Basketball Begins With Introductory Event
4/8/2025 6:26:00 PM | Women's Basketball
In front of a standing-room only crowd in GW's Tin Tabernacle Club inside the home venue of GW Revs basketball, new Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan addressed media, fans, friends and family alike on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking with a strength and steadiness honed by an education in nursing, the full Coach G experience was on display for the Buff & Blue faithful.
Commanding the room, she asked and answered. "So why GW?"
"This is an incredible opportunity. Years ago, I gave up a good nursing gig to follow my passion for coaching, and today, this reminds me yet again that I made the best decision. I believe that this is a place that has many competitive advantages."
Elite Academics.
A tradition of winning.
The A-10 Conference is a basketball conference.
Washington, DC.
An administration that supports basketball and a President that values the importance of sport.
This is a place that has great people.
I've seen people with great smiles and genuine support already, which makes me feel right at home.
She went on to address her new program. "To my new team and future players, our number one core value will be love. Our players will know that they are cared for first as people and loved for who they are, not what they do. We will be intentional with having genuine relationships and building our players holistically. Basketball will be used as a classroom to help our players be great in life."
Sharing her philosophy that led to the best three-year stretch in program history at her previous stop at Colgate, Adeduntan identified, "We are going to do what winning requires. Winning is habit. It is an all-the-time thing and the way we bring to life our culture. The way we create a positive environment where negativity cannot grow. The way we represent ourselves on and off the court. In the classroom ... in the community ... the way we walk the streets of Foggy Bottom, understanding that this is bigger than us individually."
Most powerfully and perhaps burying her lede, Adeduntan thundered: "It will be we over me. It will be mudita - an unselfish, vicarious joy not in ourselves, but in each other's success."
With mudita, the Adeduntan Era starts now.
