Revolutionaries Roll on in Women's Basketball's 70-44 Win Over American

WASHINGTON - As winners of four-in-a-row and with local foe American in the gym Sunday, George Washington women's basketball was looking to continue its winning ways in search of its first five-game winning streak since the '22-'23 season. The Eagles came to Foggy Bottom with just two wins in their last 38 games dating back to last season, and under new leadership this season, were seeking an upset against the red-hot GW Revs, who are looking ahead to finals week and the most-anticipated non-conference game in recent memory when former Head Coach Joe McKeown and Northwestern come to town Sunday.
GW handled its business and gave no reason to fear a letdown, leading for more than 37 minutes en route to the convincing 70-44 triumph.
A should've-been A-10 Player of the Week last week, Gabby Reynolds, finished off another bid for the award this week with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including three threes, along with five rebounds. The unselfish brand of basketball played by GW led to 17 assists on 28 field goals, leading to a .509 shooting percentage as Coach G's team hunted great shots throughout.
Also playing the best ball of her career this season is Sara Lewis, whose game on both ends continues to blossom. Lewis was perfect from the free throw line (5-5) and netted 11 points in all, while continuing to set a tone on D that limited American to .268 shooting.
GW dominated inside with a 38-12 advantage in points in the paint, despite seeing a zone defense that sought to limit paint touches.
With that five-game winning streak in hand and Coach McKeown and his Big 10 unit coming in Sunday at 1 p.m. for his last time coaching in the venue that made him a college basketball legend, GW will now make a run at six-straight, something it last accomplished in the '16-'17 A-10 Championship season.
