Ahead of the December 5th Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Jack Morton Auditorium in GW's Media and Public Affairs Building, located at 805 21st Street NW, GW Athletics will profile each of the six inductees in the 2025 Class.
Today we'll take a look at Atakan Destici ('20), a former men's water polo student-athlete whose career coincided with the Buff & Blue's rise to dominance.
Destici is in the conversation for best men's water polo player ever at GW after a decorated career in the Buff & Blue that saw him earn All-American Honorable Mention honors twice, All-Conference First Team honors four times, and All-Tournament Team honors every season at George Washington.
A three-time team MVP, he holds the school record for most assists in a career, and ranks second in career points, second in field blocks, fourth in steals and fifth in goals. Destici's teams won a pair of conference championships and he was a leader on both of GW's NCAA Tournament teams, including the 2018 team that advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The induction ceremony will take place at 6:00 pm on December 5th, with a reception to follow at 7:00 pm. GW Athletics will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Charles E. Smith Center throughout the weekend of Dec. 5 - 6th. Be a part of the festivities here.
