Men’s Basketball Has Streak Snapped by 2024 A-10 Champs, 73-65

WASHINGTON - With the defending A-10 Champion Duquesne Dukes in D.C. Wednesday night, the George Washington men's basketball team put its perfect home record on the line, looking to improve to 10-0 at home on the season. Duquesne had other plans and left as a 73-65 winner.
The visitors' early shooting was the difference as a stellar effort at all three levels in the first half allowed the Dukes to build a 42-29 halftime lead. Duquesne was at 50% from the floor (15-30) and from deep (7-14) in the opening 20 minutes, while leaving nothing at the line in a 5-for-5 early effort. While GW clamped down in the second half, allowing their guests a .345 mark in the field, including just .231 from deep, it was that same free throw line that let George Washington down late. Eight missed free throws in the second half for the GW Revs were critical in the eight-point defeat.
Rafael Castro was sterling for the Buff & Blue, dominating the action in his 35:09 of court time. A monster double-double with a career-high 27 points along with 13 rebounds led all players, connecting on 11-of-15 FGs.
GW almost cut the lead to one at 67-66 in the final two minutes, but a goaltending call was overturned and Duquesne went on to score six of the game's final seven points.
In a battle of the Georges, George Washington battles George Mason next, with tip-off at GM's EagleBank Arena Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on USA. A pregame tailgate for GW fans begins at 11 a.m. at Banditos Tacos & Tequila.
