Water Polo Wraps Non-Conference with Four Games in Northern California

WASHINGTON - The George Washington University water polo team (3-3, 1-0 MAWPC) will look to get back in the win column this week with four games in Northern California. The GW Revs will visit No. 9 San Jose State on Thursday afternoon (2:00 p.m. ET), before battling Fresno Pacific (4:00 p.m. ET) and UC Merced (10:00 p.m. ET) on Friday and finishing the trip vs. No. 18 Santa Clara (3:00 p.m. ET) on Saturday. Friday afternoon's matinee vs. Fresno Pacific and Saturday's contest vs. Santa Clara will be streamed, and links to those streams can be found on the schedule page.
ANOTHER TRIP TO THE GOLDEN STATE
GW last played in California in September of 2023, when they fell to No. 15 Loyola Marymount, 9-7, before rebounding with a 15-8 win over La Verne and a 17-15 win over Concordia University Irvine.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
No. 9 San Jose State comes into Thursday's matchup at 2-1, which includes a 1-1 split in top-ten matchups (15-9 win over No. 8 UC Davis; 10-8 loss to No. 5 Cal). The Spartans return their top goal scorer and assist man from last season, driver Mateja Bosic, who finished 2023 with 44 goals and 25 assists. GW lost the last meeting to San Jose State, 10-9, when the Spartans were ranked No. 15 in the country.
Fresno Pacific is winless in 2024 at 0-5. They have been outscored by opponents by a cumulative score of 38-81, which included an 18-4 loss to Santa Clara. FPU also returns its 2023 leading goal scorer, attacker Forrest Gray, who had 58 goals a season ago. GW bested the Sunbirds 23-11 in the last matchup between the teams back in 2022.
UC Merced is also winless to begin 2024 at 0-6, which includes four losses to ranked opponents (22-4 loss to No. 12 UC San Diego; 29-6 loss to No. 11 UCSB; 16-6 loss to No. 12 San Jose State; 22-3 loss to No. 8 UC Davis). Attacker Camden Peterson returns for 2024 after leading the Bobcats in total points in 2023 with 79 goals and 21 assists. GW won the last meeting between the schools, 15-7, in a neutral site in 2023.  
No. 19 Santa Clara is 4-1 to begin the year, losing their lone ranked matchup, 15-9, to No. 6 Princeton. The Broncos have two wins over MAWPC teams (20-16 win over Bucknell, 17-10 win over Wagner), and they will play their first West Coast Conference (WCC) opponent on Friday when they face No. 9 San Jose State. Attacker Zach Fales leads the Broncos in points in 2024 with 11 goals and 14 assists. GW last faced Santa Clara in 2019, which resulted in a 15-7 Buff & Blue victory.
