Vlassis chosen as Player of the Week, Castorina earns Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Junior defender Adonis Vlassis and graduate goalkeeper Luca Castorina were selected as the MAWPC's Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday. The pair led the way for the Revolutionaries to propel GW to its 3-0 weekend in conference play.Â
Vlassis finished the weekend with a total 14 goals, five steals and three exclusions drawn, which included a matching of his second-highest scoring output of the season (6 goals) vs. Mount St. Mary's. Vlassis contributed late goals in both of GW's tight matchups, vs. No. 20 (T) Bucknell and Mount St. Mary's, to help the Buff & Blue get to the finish line in both victories.
Castorina led GW's charge in net for all three matchups, making 32 total saves and adding four assists and three steals. Castorina made a crucial 10 saves vs. No. 20 (T) Bucknell and dished two assists to help the Buff & Blue stay in striking distance and eventually take down the Bison.Â
The Revolutionaries return for their lone conference battle this weekend on Sunday when they face Johns Hopkins on Sunday afternoon (12:00 p.m.) in Baltimore.
