
Volleyball Swept by 18th-Ranked Dayton

WASHINGTON – Despite a resilient effort, the George Washington volleyball team fell in straight-sets to 18th-ranked Dayton on Friday night inside the Smith Center. GW was led by junior Salem Yohannes who recorded 13 kills on the night. Yohannes continues her solid play as of late and has now led the Buff & Blue in kills in four of the team's last five matches.
BY THE NUMBERS
Along with Yohannes, junior Brittany Myers enjoyed a solid offensive game, pouring in nine kills for GW. Senior Liv Womble finished with four kills, while senior Elizabeth Drelling chipped in three. Sophomore Meave Loughran dished out a team-high 26 assists, while sophomore Amina Robinson led the Revolutionaries defensively with eight digs. Drelling also added four service aces for GW, while Loughran recorded three.
Dayton was led by Lexie Almodovar with 15 kills, while Taylor Russell recorded 11. Alyssa Miller notched a game-high 31 assists for the Flyers. Dayton was led defensively by Karissa Kaminski with 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GW started fast, jumping out to a quick 8-5 lead in the first set. Despite the early momentum, Dayton hung in, bring the score back to even at 14 apiece. After back-and-fourth play through the middle part of the opening frame, the score was once again tied at 19-19. Dayton closed the set on a 6-2 run to claim set one 25-21 inside the Smith Center.
Riding their set one momentum, Dayton rattled off six-straight points to open set two. GW managed to trim the Flyer lead down to two at 11-9, but it wasn't enough as Dayton never trailed in the second frame. The Flyers would cruise to the end of the set for a 25-19 win.
In the pivotal third frame, GW showed fight, building an 11-7 lead early on. Dayton proceeded to use an 8-4 run and tie the match at 15-all heading into the media timeout. Out of the break, Dayton closed the match on a 10-5 run to put the finishing touches on a 25-20 win. The victory is Dayton's 18th-straigh win and pushes the team to a perfect 13-0 mark in the A-10.

The Revolutionaries will host Dayton again tomorrow for at 2 p.m. inside the Smith Center. The match is being promoted as the team's "Halloween Game" and no live stream will be available.
