Volleyball Drops Match at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The George Washington volleyball team fell in straight sets to A-10 foe Fordham on Saturday afternoon. The Rams utilized a .333 hitting percentage and 47 total kills to top the Revolutionaries.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Offensively, GW was led by junior Brittany Myers who tallied a career-high 18 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Junior Salem Yohannes also got into double figures on the day, recording 11 kills for GW. Myers and Yohannes finished as the lone Revolutionaries to tally double-digit kills in both matches this weekend. Graduate student Grace Wiczek and senior Liv Womble both finished with five kills, while Womble also added 21 assists. Sophomore Maeve Loughran dished out 39 total assists as well. Defensively, sophomore Amina Robinson led GW with 10 digs. Fordham was paced by Whitley Moody who recorded 13 kills and Whitney Woodrow who tallied 19 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing for much of the frame, GW managed to tie the first set at 16 apiece. GW then rattled off four-straight points to build a 20-16 lead. Despite the visitors having the momentum, Fordham stormed back to tie the match at 22 all, and eventually pulled out a 26-24 win to take set one on their home floor.
Set two was controlled by the Rams who quickly built a 10-3 lead early on. That's the closest GW would get for the remainder of the set as the Rams cruised to a 25-16 win.
Set three was a back-and-forth battle that had six ties and seven lead changes throughout. GW fell behind 20-16 late in the set but battled back to tie the score at 23 all. Despite the momentum shift, Fordham secured the final two points of the set to secure the match win.
UP NEXT
The Revolutionaries are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Fairfax, Va., to face nearby rival George Mason. Match time is set for 6 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
