Mia Lakstigala records second straight double-double
FORT WORTH, Texas – The GW women's basketball team gave TCU all it could handle on its home court, but the Horned Frogs were able to hold off the GDUB second half comeback and wrap up a 70-58 win on Monday night.
Following an electric first quarter that saw both offenses shoot better than 50 percent from the field, both GW and TCU went cold in the second frame. However, TCU was aided by a massive 16 free throw chances in the second stanza, which allowed them to take a 40-32 lead into halftime.
After halftime, the Horned Frogs were unable to find twine which allowed the Buff & Blue to close the deficit to as little as six. However, TCU dug deep in the final 10 minutes, shooting 7-of-13 down the stretch, and holding the Colonials to just one field goal over their final 13 attempts to wrap up the win.
Individually, Mia Lakstigala continued her torrid start to the season, pouring in 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games. Piper Macke recorded career-highs in minutes (16), points (5) and steals (2) for GW.
Up next, GW will return home to face Manhattan on Friday. Tip-off between the Colonials and Jaspers is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
