Graduate guard poured in career-high 25 points on Saturday vs. New Hampshire
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW men's basketball graduate guard Brendan Adams was named the Atlantic 10's co-Player of the Week as it was announced on Monday. This is the first career award for Adams, who is enjoying a career year for the Buff & Blue. Adams also was named GW's Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Baltimore native has reached double figures in every game for GW this season, including a pair of 20-point performances this past week. In two games, Adams averaged 22.5 ppg, 5.5 RPG, 2.5 apg and shot 61% from the floor while playing 75 of a possible 80 minutes.
Having entered the week with just two 20-point performances in the first 111 games of his career, Adams matched that with two standout showings. On Tuesday vs. UC San Diego, Adams scored 20 points via a then-career-high seven made field goals. He also grabbed four rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and nabbed two steals. He then one-upped himself in Saturday's win over New Hampshire, setting a new career high with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, adding seven boards and three assists in 37 minutes.
Adams, who averaged 8.2 ppg a year ago on 38% shooting, has been on a completely different level this year. He enters the week seventh in the A-10 in scoring at 17.7 ppg on 52.9% shooting, fifth-best in the circuit. He's also third in the league in free throw percentage (87.0%), all while playing the fifth-most minutes in the A-10.
Adams will lead the Buff & Blue into a highly-anticipated, nationally-televised matchup with South Carolina on Wednesday night. Tip-off from the Smith Center is scheduled for 9 p.m. on CBS Sports Network with a free pregame tailgate on 22nd Street beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are still available at GWsports.com/tickets.
