Tori Minda and Tamaki Machi honored after two wins on the road
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following its pair of Atlantic 10 conference victories this past week, the GW women's soccer team earned two Atlantic 10 weekly awards with Tori Minda (Offensive Player of the Week) and Tamaki Machi (Defensive Player of the Week) honored.
Minda scored both of the game-winning goals in GW's recent 1-0 victories at VCU and George Mason. At VCU on Thursday, Minda headed the ball into the back of the net on GW's third shot on goal of the possession. Three days later at George Mason, the sophomore midfielder broke a scoreless stalemate in the 82nd minute when she went one-on-one with a defender and put the ball just past the reach of the keeper.
The Garden City, N.Y., native is second on the team in scoring with five goals this season.
Minda was also honored as GWsports.com's Colonial of the Week for her efforts in the two A-10 victories.
Machi shared Defensive Player of the Week honors with Emily Puricelli of Saint Louis. In GW's most recent win at George Mason, Machi made six saves to record her second straight clean sheet, making three key saves in the final minutes of regulation to help lift GW over the Patriots. The redshirt sophomore has tallied five shutouts on the season.
The Buff and Blue will close out the regular season on Sunday when they host Davidson at 1 p.m.
