
McCarthy Lands A-10 Gold

Buff & Blue finished fourth in team standings
GENEVA, Ohio - Erin McCarthy capped a breakout week at the Atlantic 10 Championships by winning gold in the 1,650 free on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute.
The junior from Minnetonka, Minn., closed strong to claim victory in 16:40.68 while trimming more than 11 seconds off her personal-best time. Earlier in the week, she secured bronze in the 500 free, and she also qualified for the A final of the 200 free before finishing seventh.
McCarthy's excellent swim highlighted the final day of the conference meet for the Buff and Blue, who finished fourth in the team standings with 438 points. Richmond (687.5) took the title, followed by Duquesne (539) and Davidson (515).
Over the four days, GW collected four medals with Marlee Rickert (silver 100 back) and Jamie Doak (3-meter diving) also reaching the podium.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Andrea Ho pulled a tough double, qualifying for the A final in both the 200 back and 200 fly with a pair of personal-best morning swims before landing eighth in both events. During prelims, the senior from Perth, Australia, went 2:00.03 in the 200 back and then finished the 200 fly in 2:01.64. Both swims rank No. 3 on the program's all-time top 10.
- McCarthy's 16:40.68 ranks fourth on the program's all-time top 10. Andrea Moussier (17:13.99) and Marissa Martin (17:19.31) also scored in the mile, taking 11th and 13th, respectively.
- A first-year from Leesport, Pa., Rickert closed out a strong week in her first trip to the A-10 meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 back in 1:59.33.
- Grace Olivardia was sixth in the 100 free in 51.11 seconds, one-hundredth of a second off a personal best. Becca Brown finished runner-up in the B final for 10th.
- Courtney Sicinski placed seventh in the 200 breast in 2:18.06, while Stine Omdahl Peterson won the B final for ninth in 2:17.70.
- Rickert, McCarthy, Brown and Olivardia teamed up to take seventh in the meet-closing 100 free relay in 3:26.30. Rickert's lead-off split of 50.90 seconds is good for No. 5 on the program's all-time 100 free list.
