First-year swimmer delivers shining debut at Cavalier Invite

Facing competition from No. 10 Virginia and No. 22 Pittsburgh, Mlynarczyk made quite a splash in his collegiate debut over the weekend at the Cavalier Invitational, winning twice and cracking the program's all-time top 10 in four different individual events.
The first-year swimmer's finest performance came in Saturday's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 46.97 seconds that currently ranks among the top 25 in the nation this season. He followed up Sunday with a top 200-yard backstroke time of 1:43.91 that puts him within the top 50 nationally. Both of those efforts rank second in program history behind NCAA qualifier Gustav Hokfelt.
As part of his tremendous debut, Mlynarczyk also landed all-time top 10 times in the 100 fly (:47.98) and 50 free (:20.79) on the weekend, in addition to contributing to a pair of Buff and Blue relays.
