Buff & Blue trio honored on All-Conference Second Team
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - George Washington's Andras Levai, Viktor Jovanovic and Luca Castorina have been named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Second Team, the league announced Saturday.
Levai landed All-Conference honors for the third time, Jovanovic was recognized for the second straight season and Castorina cracked the list for the first time.
A graduate student from Budapest, Hungary, Levai led the Buff and Blue with 65 points during the regular season via 40 goals and 25 assists. He also excelled defensively with 24 steals and 15 field blocks.
For his career, Levai ranks among the top five in program history in all five of those categories. He previously received All-MAWPC First Team recognition during the abbreviated 2020-21 season and earned a Second Team nod in 2019.
Jovanovic has been a key piece for the Buff and Blue on both ends from the center position. The sophomore from Calgary, Canada, piled up 64 ejections drawn in 23 regular season games, a total that ranks among the top 10 for a single season in program history.
Jovanovic has showcased a knack for coming up clutch this fall, highlighted by late game-winning goals vs. Brown and Johns Hopkins. In total, he recorded 28 goals during the regular season to rank fourth on the squad.
Jovanovic was also recognized on the All-MAWPC Second Team for his strong play as a rookie.
Castorina has been terrific in net throughout his sophomore campaign, recording 302 saves vs. 270 goals allowed during the regular season for a sterling .528 save percentage, plus 39 steals and 13 assists. The goalkeeper from Catania, Sicily, set a program single-game record when he tallied 24 stops vs. Navy on Nov. 4.
Castorina was named MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the regular season. He landed the most recent award after helping the Buff and Blue to a doubleheader sweep to close the regular season that secured the No. 3 seed for the conference championship.
It's the sixth consecutive season that the program has produced multiple All-Conference selections.
