Luma leads the way again with fourth straight double-figure effort
RICHMOND, Va. - GW women's basketball nearly completed a double-digit comeback in the fourth quarter on Wednesday night at Richmond, but ultimately fell, 47-42, at the Robins Center.
The Colonials held the Spiders to two points in the final 5:37, both on free throws in the final minute. GW trailed by nine, 45-36, after a layup from Addie Budnik provided UR's final bucket.
From there, GW scored six straight points on a jumper from redshirt junior Neila Luma and consecutive layups from Ali Brigham, to pull within a possession with 59.5 seconds remaining.
GW forced a stop and had the ball down three, but an offensive foul on the ensuing possession denied the Buff & Blue's best opportunity. Richmond then hit a pair at the charity stripe to make it a two-possession game.
Luma and Brigham once again reached double digits for GW, finishing with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Luma, who has now scored 10+ in all four Atlantic 10 games, also paced the team with seven rebounds.
Graduate student Jasmine Whitney stuffed the stat sheet with five assists and four steals, posting at least three in each category for the 10th straight game to begin the season.
GW is back on the road this weekend, making the short jaunt to George Mason on Sunday. Tip-off is now scheduled for noon to accommodate the GW men's game vs. Dayton at 4:30 p.m. at EagleBank Arena.
