Beyond the Bio: Dave Earl
9/22/2020 11:04:00 AM | My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
Â
In this edition, we learn more about Dave Earl, the General Manager for GW Sports Properties, connecting corporate partners to the GW Athletics community. He's worked in different roles for GW for eight years and has earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Foggy Bottom.
Â
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
Take my daughters hiking and camping
Â
If I was an animal, I would be?
I'm reading a book right now about taming a goshawk for falconry, and they seem like incredible birds.
Â
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
A plate of Tonic's wings and an order of tots
Â
My favorite place I've ever been is?
I love New Orleans.
Â
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
I've always loved the way that George Plimpton made a living connecting people to incredible writers, and helped normal people understand what it was like to be an elite athlete, even if that meant getting tackled by an NFL linebacker or losing a boxing match to a heavyweight title holder.
Â
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
I want to take over for DJ Dior one day and show off my extremely good catalogue of Dad Rock.
Â
The person I'm most inspired by is?
My wife Emily has an incredible gift for doing the next right thing for herself and the people she loves, finding the best way forward without worrying about should'ves or could'ves.
Â
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Book:Â All the King's Men, by Robert Penn Warren
Movie: The Lives of Others
TV Show: I loved SportsNight with everything I have in me, and everyone should watch it and get us a reboot.
My top #OnlyAtGWÂ moment was?
Helping run the game script for a men's basketball game from the floor of Tex Silverman Court with Barack Obama sitting in the stands throughout the game.
Â
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
I can't for the life of me imagine pulling off a vault with the GW Gymnastics team.
