Beyond the Bio: Sangmi Park
9/15/2020 10:49:00 AM | My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
Â
In this edition, we learn more about Sangmi Park, who is entering her sixth year with the Buff and Blue as the Administrative Associate for the Athletics Development office. In her role, Sangmi handles scheduling meetings with her team, organizes and coordinates events for alumni and donors, manages hospitality for the Colonials Club members during the basketball season, and handles stewardship to thank donors and alumni for their support and gifts to GW Athletics.
Â
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
I enjoy simply hanging out with friends and chatting and I love to try out new restaurants and go to different cafes. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do it much recently during the pandemic, so IÂ have been doing a lot of cooking, which I also love to do and trying out new recipes, especially for Korean food. :)Â
 Â
If I was an animal, I would be?
An eagle. I love how charismatic and strong an eagle looks and how they are able to soar and travel freely anywhere.Â
Â
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
It would be a Korean dish called Tteokbokki (or spicy rice cakes). It's considered to be "street food" in South Korea, so it's really cheap and you can always find it anywhere. It is something I eat on a regular basis by making it on my own or if I'm visiting family in South Korea, it is the first thing I eat when I arrive. My parents are well aware of this as my favorite food, so sometimes they would buy it beforehand and have it ready for me to eat so I could eat it as soon as I got off the plane. :)
Â

My favorite place I've ever been is?
Interlaken, Switzerland. My parents and I wanted to see Jungfraujoch, a part of the Swiss Alps during our Europe trip one summer. It was cool that I was on top of a snowy mountain when technically it was summertime. I was blown away with how beautiful the scenery was and how clean the air and water was that it really made me appreciate nature to another level.
Â

Â
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
My grandpa. We'll probably have tea though cause he's not a coffee drinker.
Â
He passed away in the winter of my senior year of high school and something we were both looking forward to was him attending my graduation and seeing me go off to college, hopefully even visiting me one day. I would love to have the opportunity to share with him where I am today and how much I have grown up. Also, he really cared for all of his grandkids and was waiting for the day for great grandkids, so I want to show him photos of my nieces and nephews.
Â
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
Head Coach
Â
The person I'm most inspired by is?
My parents. They are the ones who inspire me to always be positive and be true to myself. Even though we're not together, I know I always have their support in anything I do. Thanks to technology, we video call pretty frequently that they don't miss out too much of what is happening in my life.
Â
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Book: Pride and Prejudice
Movie: A Walk to Remember
TV Show: Full House/Fuller House
Â
My top #OnlyAtGWÂ moment was?
I have two top moments: first was the opportunity to hear two MLB Commissioners speak, and second is going on a short-term study abroad program during graduate school to China, where I had the opportunity to go to the Great Wall!Â
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
Be an athlete participating in the Olympics.
