Beyond the Bio: Kevin Burke
7/13/2020 10:11:00 AM | My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
Â
In this edition, we learn about Kevin Burke, who is entering his third year with the Buff & Blue as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. He works with the women's basketball, baseball, volleyball, men's tennis, track & field/cross country and women's rowing programs.Â
Â
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
Definitely watching or attending games of my favorite pro teams, the World Champion Washington Nationals and Capitals. Outside of D.C. sports, I've recently begun to scratch my travel itch and can't wait to continue exploring in the coming years!Â
If I was an animal, I would be?
I've been told an owl before. I'll take it - inquisitive, aware and, most importantly, nocturnal.
Â
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
Steak and mashed potatoes.
Â
My favorite place I've ever been is?
Stockholm, Sweden, a city made up of 14 islands! From the food to the architecture to the culture, it truly feels like you're in such a different and amazing world.
Â
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
I don't drink coffee, but would happily pull up a chair to chat with broadcasting legend Vin Scully.
Â
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
I'd love to move up a floor and work with our amazingly creative marketing and video team.
Â
The person I'm most inspired by is?
My grandfather, who constantly reminds us about how blessed my family is and to always think of others who are not as fortunate as we are.
Â
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Movie: Shawshank Redemption, Bohemian Rhapsody
TV Show: Parks & Recreation
Book: Primarily read non-fiction and biographies, so "Let Me Be Frank" by Frank Beamer
Â
My top #OnlyAtGWÂ moment was?
As a DMV native, it's special anytime I'm able to walk to the National Mall as part of my job. It really hit home how unique this place is when I watched volleyball practice at the sand courts near the Lincoln Memorial in one of my first weeks on the job.
Â
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
Play Major League Baseball or become a PGA Tour golfer.
