Beyond the Bio: Shatara Stokes
6/8/2020 10:35:00 AM | My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
In this edition, we learn about Shatara Stokes, who is nearing her third year as a member of the Buff & Blue. Shatara is the Administrative Associate to Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. In her role, she aids the AD in answering emails, handling scheduling, coordinating events and meetings, and assisting with the administrative department budget. Let's take a deeper dive into Shatara's passions, favorite places and what she loves most about being a Colonial.
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
Lay out by any body of water (pool, beach, etc.) with my friends or read a good book
If I was an animal, I would be?
A dolphin, mainly because I love the water, but also because they are so intelligent and friendly
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
Ice cream! And I am an adult so I can do that.
My favorite place I've ever been is?
Top of Santa Clara La Laguna in Guatemala. I was able to view seven of the 30 + major volcanoes at sunrise from this place. It was amazing and something I can remember so vividly.
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
Toni Braxton! I love me some Toni.
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
I would like to be an Athletic Trainer for a day. It was actually what "I wanted to be when I grew up" but I am kind of a germaphobe and touching people (especially feet) grosses me out.
The person I'm most inspired by is?
My sister. She has a nonprofit farm created to give neurodiverse people every opportunity to thrive and succeed in the workforce.
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Book: Well-Read Black Girl
Movie: The Little Mermaid
Podcast: The Read
My top #OnlyAtGW moment was?
When Volleyball came back to beat Mason in five sets after losing the first two
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
Do a gymnastics floor routine
