Beyond the Bio: James Hellekjaer
6/1/2020 12:44:00 PM | My GW: Celebrating our Stories
Welcome back to Beyond the Bio, where we'll get to know more about the people behind the scenes at GW Athletics.
Â
In this edition, we learn about James Hellekjaer, who is in his second year as a member of the Buff & Blue. James is an Academic Advisor who works with student-athletes from baseball, golf, men's rowing, women's rowing, women's soccer and sailing. Let's take a deeper dive into James' passions, favorite places and what he loves most about being a Colonial.
Â
When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is?
Watching TV/movies. Cooking.
If I was an animal, I would be?
An elephant.
If I could only eat one meal for every meal for the rest of my life, it would be?
Chipotle Chicken Burrito or my mom's lasagna.
Â
My favorite place I've ever been is?
Italy. I have been fortunate to go three times and am looking forward to hopefully going again in 2021. Can't beat the pasta and pizza.
If I could have coffee with anybody in the world, living or historical, he/she would be?
Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. I probably wouldn't say much, but I would learn a lot.
The one job in GW Athletics I'd like to do for a day is?
Pitching Coach for GW Baseball. Rick Oliveri does a great job, but maybe he'll let me call a few pitches next season?
The person I'm most inspired by is?
My parents. I appreciate the opportunities they have provided for me in education and other areas, as well as their continued support throughout my career and life.Â
My favorite book, movie, TV show or podcast is?
Book: "There is No Next: NBA Legends on the Legacy of Michael Jordan" by Sam Smith
Movie: Training Day
TV Show: Law and Order SVU
My top #OnlyAtGWÂ moment was?
Sunrise over the monuments while at GW rowing practice - view from the Potomac, of course!
If I could be granted the gift of elite athleticism, I'd like to be able to?
The ability to complete a 2k in 5:38.7.
